If you run an office in Bournemouth, Poole or Lymington, you probably do not need a leased line. You need decent business fibre, and a plan for Tuesday morning if it drops.
This is the short version of how we choose between broadband and a leased line. It is for a 10–40 person office, not a national network.
Get a broadband quote — we check what that building can get. Get a leased line quote — a live price in about 30 seconds, if you already know you need a line of your own.
In one minute
Business fibre is shared. Other buildings use the same network. It is cheaper and usually in faster. Downloads look great. Calls and backups can feel slower because they send data the other way. If it breaks, repair often takes a day or two.
A leased line is just for you. Same speed both ways. We get a written promise to fix it the same day. It costs more and takes longer to install.
Most offices should stay on fibre. Put a 4G or 5G backup router in before you spend on a leased line.
Side by side
| Business fibre | Leased line | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | Shared fibre | A line just for you |
| Uploads | The bit that can drag on calls and backups | As fast as downloads |
| If it breaks | A day or two, typically | A written same-day fix time |
| If it dies at 9am | A 4G backup router first | When that is not enough |
| Fit | Teams, email, a few dozen people | Phones on the internet, all-day backups, two offices, or you cannot be dark |
| Install | Usually quicker. The landlord may still need to agree in an older building | Takes longer. Survey, and sometimes the landlord, especially older Bournemouth and Lymington stock |
When fibre is not enough
We only talk leased line if:
- your phones run over the internet
- backups run all day
- two offices have to talk to each other
- you really cannot be offline
A faster broadband package will not fix a slow repair. And a leased line is the wrong buy if the building just needs fibre in.
